History

I am often asked how I got started doing Sweetfire Creations, so I thought I would share the beginnings.

In November of 2009, I volunteered to decorate for a silent auction and was told that the budget was basically set at… nothing.  So, I decided to do some origami flowers and centerpieces.  I went out to the the internet and found the classic lily.  I ended up with these… basically lilies on a stick (steeeeeck) and some tulip variations.

But by the time the event was over, I was hooked on the origami.  I started making money items and sunflowers (hand-painted centers) and some friends ordered a bunch of pots for their children’s teachers.

Somewhere in here… I decided that I wanted to make my origami into earrings… so I started studying how to make jewelry.   I did eventually make my cranes into some earrings and necklaces.

But while learning about jewelry making, I discovered a fondness for wire-wrapping.  Right about then, I came across how to make the Tree of Life.  I fell in love with it and tweaked it until it was the way I like them.  I have always had a deep love and kinship with trees.  I also really enjoy incorporating natural stones into my work to add to the earthiness of them.

Soon after that, I started watching a few TV series on Netflix.  I have a hard time sitting still through a show… I like to keep my hands busy and I didn’t want to keep them busy by snacking.  So I folded.  And folded.  And folded.  Voila… my 3D origami fascination came about.

I am still learning and tweaking and discovering.  I am working on getting my inventory into the Etsy shop but it is a long process.  So if you see something you like or have an idea please let me know.    I am also available for parties and classes (I have a theatre education degree and references).
